Participation Waiver and Release

Version waiver-2026-10-20 · Effective October 20, 2026

Reading this page does not sign anything.After you reserve and pay for a place, you review and sign this waiver separately for each child and term in your family account. Paying for a place does not sign it for you.

This document is between you, the parent or legal guardian signing it, and Gunning Industries Corp, doing business as The Starter House (“The Starter House”, “we”, “us”). It is signed separately for one child and one term. The child, the term and the class are named in the signature record that accompanies this document.

Please read this document carefully. By signing it, you give up the right to make certain claims against The Starter House for injuries caused by its ordinary negligence, as explained in section 5. You do not give up the claims listed in section 6. You may ask questions or ask for a paper copy before you sign (section 10).

1. Who signs

You confirm that you are 18 or older and that you are the child’s parent or legal guardian with legal authority to sign this document for the child. You sign it for the child and for yourself.

2. Activities this document covers

This document covers only your child’s participation in The Starter House’s junior golf classes for the term named in the signature record, at the location we confirm to you for those classes. That includes golf instruction and practice, full and partial swings, chipping and putting, use of golf simulator bays, hitting mats, nets and impact screens, putting areas, warm-ups, movement and short games, and time in our facility immediately before and after class.

It does not cover transportation, off-site trips or events, or any activity that is not part of those classes. If we ever offer an activity outside the classes, we will ask for a separate permission.

3. Risks of golf instruction

Golf is a physical activity. Even with careful instruction and supervision, it carries risks, including:

  • being struck by a golf club, including by another golfer’s swing or backswing;
  • being struck by a golf ball, including a ball that ricochets off a wall, floor, net, impact screen, mat or equipment;
  • contact with impact screens, nets, simulator equipment, hitting mats and putting surfaces;
  • slips, trips, falls and collisions;
  • muscle strains, sprains, overuse and exertion injuries;
  • the actions of other students, coaches or other people in the facility;
  • failure or defect of equipment.

These risks can cause minor injuries and, in rare cases, serious injury, permanent disability or death. No one can remove every risk, and we do not promise that all risk has been removed.

4. Your part in keeping your child safe

  • Go over the coaches’ safety directions with your child, and encourage your child to follow them.
  • Help your child understand that they must stay out of swing and hitting zones unless a coach directs them, and use clubs, balls and equipment only as instructed.
  • Keep your child’s details in your account accurate and current, including an emergency contact who can be reached during class, and tell us about any medical condition, accommodation or other need that coaches should know to include your child safely.
  • Tell a coach or the club office promptly about any injury, illness or hazard you or your child notice.

5. Release of claims for ordinary negligence

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you, for yourself and for your child, release Gunning Industries Corp, doing business as The Starter House, and its owners, employees, coaches and volunteers (the “released parties”) from liability for any injury to your child, or loss to you or your child, that arises from your child’s participation in the activities described in section 2 and is caused by the ordinary negligence of a released party. This means that you and your child agree not to bring a claim against the released parties for injuries caused by their ordinary negligence in those activities.

6. What this document does not release

This document does not release, and you and your child keep, every claim for injury or loss caused by: gross negligence; recklessness; intentional or willful misconduct; abuse, harassment or any other misconduct toward a child; fraud; or a violation of law, including any law or regulation that protects health or safety. It also does not release any claim or right that the law does not allow to be released in advance, or any refund right under our Cancellation & Refund Policy.

Nothing in this document requires you or your child to repay, defend or indemnify anyone, including if your child brings a claim that this document does not release.

7. Emergencies

If your child is injured or becomes ill during class, we will try to reach you, and then your emergency contact, straight away. If the situation needs urgent attention, you authorize us to call emergency services and to give basic first aid while help is on the way. If neither you nor your emergency contact can be reached in time, you consent to your child receiving emergency medical care that licensed professionals decide is necessary, as the law allows. Coaches and staff are not medical professionals, and this document does not promise any particular medical training or care.

8. Photographs are separate

This document does not give permission to photograph your child or to use your child’s image. Photo permission is a separate, optional choice in your family account.

9. One child, one term

Each signature covers one child for one term. A different child, or a later term, needs its own signature. You can read and download the signed copy in your family account at any time.

10. Signing electronically
